Music Application
Not sure if you are still looking for people to help with the music for this game, but I would be more than happy to contribute. I have listened to a lot of the original hl1/hl2 soundtracks by Kelly Bailey and I think I know the style you are going for.

Re: Music Apllication
We'd be much more apt to take your offer seriously if you had some samples of music you've made to show us.
Re: Music Apllication
I am currently working on a couple of tracks in the style of HL2, and will post a link here when its done.

Re: Music Apllication
I look forward to listening

Re: Music Application
Alright, heres a sample track I've come up with! It's similar to the songs that build up to and during combat from HL2. But I could also make some relaxed/ambient type songs if you want. The file is about 1:20 and 3MB. Let me know what you think.

Re: Music Application
Sorry to bump this topic, but its been about 3 weeks and I was wondering if there was any progress with my music application.
I am a huge fan of this mod and I check the forums regularly for updates. My music writing/recording skills are also improving all the time and I think I could really help out here. Get back to me when you can, thanks.

Re: Music Application
Hello.
Just had a listen to your sample music. I loved it. I would be a great track to be played when everyone is sitting in the lobby setting up a game.
You will have to wait for ennui or sander to reply though to see if they like it.

Re: Music Application
I like it, you get a thumbs up from me. I could see it being used ingame or as lobby music etc buts its sanders call.

Re: Music Application
Yeah, the music sounds good.
I'm personally just not sure how music in general should be used in hl2wars.

Re: Music Application
Music is awesome.
Make more, pretty please.
EDIT: I can see this music being used for a "warm-up" introductory video to HL2Wars or some highly intense fast-paced game.
EDIT2: As far as in-game music, in my opinion, would have to be something closer to being ambient and must also loop. Take examples from the Command & Conquer series; in my opinion, for most of the maps and campaign scenarios, the music matched the atmosphere and theme (ie. music matching cold, dark, dry, lonely and winter'ish weather; cold-blue glowing of Tesla towers in complement create an unforgetable atmosphere).
EDIT3: Then there could be "hot moments" or whatever when a [major] battle erupts to give the player(s) the feeling that the gameplay really is getting more intense; music could give the player the impression that in moments like these, their decisions and strategy could ultimately determine the final outcome of the battle and even the entire game. Desperation.

The sample music he posted would be cool to be played in the lobby. I can just imagine sitting there waiting for the game to start while listening to it

Re: Music Application
you could even implement a sort of music engine/script if you will.
where global points are given if there currently is any fighting/shooting making that value higher and playing more battle orientated music.
as in have a lot of smaller samples that can follow each other up and have them based on this value play, either more battle orientated music samples or more ambient/relaxed/background music.
you would get like a tree structure of samples that can be played after one another with most/all samples having two samples that can follow: either the battle variant or the ambient variant.

Re: Music Application
Thanks for the replies, and some interesting ideas raised. At the moment I can see 3 different routes you could take for the music in HLWars.
1) A few "themes" for each of the factions that could be randomly played in game depending on what faction you are.
2) No music at all, except for maybe lobby music. And just rely on sound effects/voices/ambient noises.
3) Basically what Sudazima said:
It would be interesting to see what everyone thinks would be the better option, or if anyone can think of other options

spore uses the system i suggested pretty good, alot of small samples to create the music based on what is going on.
