[Mini-Mod] HL2 Wars: Revolution

Intro: Revolution is a Mini-Mod for HL2Wars, the project is NOT being continued by me. It is simply up for your enjoyment and only requires HL2Wars 0.5.

If possible, report any Bugs, Suggestions, or Ideas in this THREAD! Anything that would go good for Revolution, and yes I will try to work on a Campaign, if I get enough help...

Revolution, hopefully, will become not separate from HL2Wars, but Dominant as a 'mini-mod'... I hope you guys enjoy the new Units so far, Maps will come later, but you can try Sheckly's Beta Map if your searching for more juice to keep you going.

FAQ:

Q. What is HL2Wars: Revolution?

A. HL2Wars: Revolution is a mini-modification of HL2Wars Version 0.5. Revolution is purely concept, through and through to show what neat things you can do with the code here! Revolution contains new Units, sounds, structures, AI types, Abilities, Models, Bug Fixes, and a bit more.

Q. Why do you call it HL2Wars: Revolution?

A. The definition of Revolution is referred to as 'a fundamental change in power'. Basically, what Revolution does is expand the current HL2Wars Version 0.5 with tons of new features.

Q. Why did you make Revolution?

A. Truth is, I wanted to make something out of HL2Wars, something we could all enjoy and benefit from. The ideas of the features in Revolution are meant to be passed on to the next HL2Wars Version, and so on and so forth. This was also a personal project at the time, and later, I felt I just wanted to release it so others could try the extremely easy system HL2Wars brought us. Yes, this allows you to make your own Units, but you need to mess with the Scripts to do so.

Q. Will Revolution exist in the future?

A. Hopefully, I have begun to make arrangements for when the next HL2Wars Version to come out to expand off the features it will provide.

Q. Will Maps be included?

A. Yes, and yes, were doing this for fun, not for money or benefit.

Q. If I have a great Idea about a new Unit, can I show you?

A. As long as you give me a link to where I can find a source of it. If you have a completely new idea you made up by yourself, I will include your name in the Credits if I decide it's good enough to put in.

Q. Can original Half-Life NPC's be included?

A. To an extent... You see, I, like the Dev Team here, don't want to use the original HL NPC's. Partly, is because their Model will look weird with HL2 graphics. However, if you find a Model that does fit in with Revolution, I will be happy to see if I can include it in future Versions. Currently, I have the Vortigaunt Slave and the HECU Grunt available. The Vortigaunt Slave will be added in a future Version.

Q. What do you plan to include with Revolution?

A. New ideas, unused abilities like Headcrab Canisters, new Weapons, new NPC's (we already got enough, but if it's good, I'll use it), new Vehicles, new Building Models, new Character Models, and much, much more.

Q. Can I help with Revolution?

A. Yes, and no... If your gonna Map and want your Map to be included with the next Revolution Download, sure! You can also do something called 'Revolutionizing' your HL2Wars Map. What this does, is you either add the crap from Revolution to support the Map, or you make things easier with Revolution NPC's or features to adjust to the Map. You must first add 'revo' to the end of your Map's name, so you can release two Versions of it.

That's where I've been getting a lot of the models/other stuff. However, I want to have some stuff pointed out, and Custom Rebel Models can't be applied as of now. Apparantly, it requires me to set the "citizentype" to "4" and that generates an instant crash upon spawning the NPC in HL2Wars for some odd reason. Citizentype is the code that determines what model the Rebel uses.

1 = The Downtrodden Citizen Model

2 = The Refugee Citizen Model

3 = The Rebel Citizen Model

4 = Custom Models (It crashes on spawn for some reason, which makes it literally IMPOSSIBLE to spawn in HL2Wars)

However, it works in GMOD. They have Custom Rebel Models that use "4" and they never crash. Until then, don't give me Custom Rebel Models or assignments about them. I already tried and failed at that attempt.

There is some good news though. I JUST MIGHT be able to put a Combine APC into the works. It's a risky deal, but I'm certain I can get it right. If I do make it work (and not crash), I am one step closer to modding this 'mod' up.

If anyone's got an idea, tell me. I need ideas to freshen up my memory. Even another little 'mini-mod' for HL2Wars can be made.

Add manhacks to metro cops.That will be how grenades. :idea:

I got that to work for the Metro-Elites, they use Grenades. However, the usual Metro-Copz I can try to get that to work.

Where? Show me the ones you use...

I also heard there's a Metro-Cop model that has more animations for better use...been thinking bout that for a long, long time...

There are models that have animations in the own model, but there are some that have them in the lua files, you have to avoid them.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid the LUA files and just stick to the usual scripting.

However, for all of you, I REALLY need some ideas! I'm out of ideas so if anyone can point out some custom models (try FPSBanana, or GMOD) it will be VERY helpful. There is one problem other than that though. The only WORKING APC I know, is in LUA. And LUA hates HL2Wars so we will have to find another way to making a working APC NPC.

Leave it to Sander to make the APC, I'm just gonna keep doing my job and make some spare units in my time.

The problem with the APC is that it isn't an npc, and in gmod you can only find it driveable. but search in the npc secction you can find lots of them.

There actually is an APC that IS an NPC, made out of LUA. It was made by Silverlan. BTW he also made all the HL: Renaissance stuff, like the original HL NPC's and the Mortar Synth.

However, the APC, it does not spawn in HL2Wars, since we run on Python and not LUA. If that was different, then we could absolutely see an APC right now in HL2Wars. But, until Sander codes it in, and I'm just scripting the code to respond and work for us, we will all just have to wait. Trust me, I have waited long enough that I wanted to take action and start my own little mini-mod.

I'm doing this for MYSELF really, at no real benefit. I just think it's cool to create things for yourself. However, my recent thoughts a bit back told me to 'give it out'. So, I plan to release Revolution when it is READY. And when you guys report bugs and glitches to me, I will send a patch or two your way.

Right now, Revolution is in 0.67 Beta. It has changed little because I am still looking for ideas. In this new version, I just corrected some little bugs, and made a new building. I have called it the 'DarkWatch' Barracks, as it should later contain all the 'elite' units for the Combine, such as, Combine Assassins, and DarkWatch Agents. I also changed the name of the Metro-SWAT to the Metro-Police 'Riot' Cop and he now wields a Shotgun. It was an obvious fix for me at the time, because I wanted a CP that could carry a Shotgun, and have 5 different Cops wielding an SMG is just...repetitive and lazy.

Anyway, here is the APC NPC:

EDIT: Actually, I have some news for the Tactical version I might just create. It seems some people want me to make one after I release Revolution.

Yeah, I might use that. Just give me Models with Animations, and I can put it using some sort of role in the Combine. Also, an SNPC = Sent NPC. All that means is it is a player-created NPC.

Now I gotta go play a quick game of L4D real fast cuz a friend is rushing me...

this is a player model, so it has animations, There is a cremator player model, I'll link it, can you try to turn it into an npc?
