The Minimap Headache

Postby Cozy » Tue Jan 06, 2025 11:16 pm

I just made a quick map to test out the waters and the only thing left is to get the darn minimap working. I have already spent more time trying to figure out the dumb minimap than everything else combined.

Basically, in my "Lambda Wars\lambdawars\materials\overviews" folder I have hlw_gridlock.png, hlw_gridlock.txt, hlw_gridlock.vmt and hlw_gridlock.vtf.

hlw_gridlock.txt reads:
hlw_gridlock
{
material overviews/hlw_gridlock // texture file
pos_x -6144 // X coordinate
pos_y 6261 // Y coordinate
scale 12.0 // scale used when taking the screenshot
rotate 0 // map was rotated by 90 degrees in image editor
zoom 1.3 // optimal zoom factor if map is shown in full size
}

hlw_gridlock.vmt reads:
UnlitGeneric
{
$translucent 1
$basetexture overviews/hlw_gridlock
$vertexalpha 1
$no_fullbright 1
$ignorez 1
}

I'd really appreciate it if somebody could take a look and let me know where I screwed up, because I've been at this for over two hours now already :/

There is no .txt file needed for the minimap. It uses a .res file which should be in the map folder. You just need to rename the .txt to .res and put it in the maps folder.

It works perfectly now! Thanks a ton, you're my hero! xD

I'll put the map up here after I'm done initial testing/visual tweaking just in case anybody is interested in more variety ;)
