With the recent veteran crossbow nerf they should get a scaling feature. I propose an upgrade at the rebel munitions depot called "Experimental Weapons" This enables veterans to switch to a Tau Cannon for a requisiton and Scrap cost. The tau cannon deals 40 explosive damage, which is less than the crossbow, but at a higher fire rate to equal about 50% more dps, at the same range and accuracy. It also replaces the explosive bolt with a charged shot that deals 25% more damage with a bonus to structures in a 30% smaller area.
The experimental weapons upgrade also adds the gluon gun as an upgrade to the flamer, it increases the range by 25%, removes splash but multiplies the damage by 2.

The Tau cannon model and projectile are in HL2, but a custom Gluon gun would be needed, with the backpack and energy stream.

Eh, I don't think this would work much, the Veterans are really unbalanced, and having them use weapons which there is only one model of in the lore really wouldn't work. Perhaps there can be some special Units who can utilize a Tao Gun?

I admit the gluon gun is a bit weird, but the flamers are not exactly cannon. As for the tau cannon, we know the resistance still uses them so I do not see the issue.
