This idea occurred to me last night and I think it is worth sharing.
What if we had a true night map, where everything was super dim, and each units view was shortened immensely. The fog of war would be very close to each unit meaning players would have a very limited sense of their surroundings.
Light infantry would have the ability to light a flare and throw it, similar to the grenade ability.
There would be an upgrade in the armory/ muny depot to equip your troops with night vision, otherwise they would be forced to use flashlights which make them especially visible at night time.
You would be forced to take extra care of your troops due to the fact that you might stumble upon an antlion nest or a zombie infested area.
Observers would naturally be equipped with night vision, as would the rebel counterpart, however leading your troops with these would be a serious disadvantage, considering a well placed sniper or god forbid, headcrab canister, could cripple your sight.
This would open up pathways for maps loosely based off of maps in half life 2 and the episodes where you are stuck underground in the dark.
If you've got a few cents to throw in, lets hear it. Feedback always helps.
True Nighttime/ Night Vision/ Flashlights
Re: True Nighttime/ Night Vision/ Flashlights
Giving infantry flares on nighttime maps reminds me of Company of Heroes, where if you play on a winter map your infantry can build fires. I like the idea overall.
Re: True Nighttime/ Night Vision/ Flashlights
This seems like a great idea man! But the resources needed for this to happen would take some times, we'd need a dark map that is filled with traps and such, we'd also need a lot of coding done for this stuff to happen, not to mention the models and textures. Overall, I really like this idea.
