Ok, so I just rambled down some stuff that I though had some relevance to the RTS universe, and looked at quite a lot of games to see how and what it was like. This is waht I came up with. Allthough this is not in order or anything you get the general idea. I've been playing C&C Generals and Starcraft in the past couple of weeks before I found this mod, and some of the unit are more or less influenced by those, and other RTS's.
Please tell me what you think and give me feedback on this.

I know this may sound harsh but i dont mean it like that but Heros...Bad idea...Unless they have limitations and are not charictors like alex vance or gordon freeman.
Gordon Freeman does not have a model (forget about the hl1 model) and Gman i just can't see him pulling out a AR2 and shooting people if you know what i mean.
+ Also at this stage Antlions and Zombies wont be playable.
The ones ive listed below I dont think whould be helpful to the game. The rest sounded fine

Units:
Scientist(Researcher) (Reserch buildings does this job?)
Vaurtigons(Building/Healing) (Vorts are a elite unit not a builder their for attacking)
MP5 (Not everyone may have CSS good idea none the less but the CSS MP5 would outperform the AR2 dramatically unless changed as well)

Turrets
*Sniper Combine/rebel (Is a turret? i know what you mean by a movable sniper who must hunker down b4 he shoots but i would not class him as a turret.

Combine Truck (do you mean a APC?)
*Rollerballs
*Mine

Strider
*Take over building (??? please describe this futher)
Elite Combine
*Gravety Gun (no gravity guns only one exsists and gordon has it + it would ruin the game)
*Portal Gun (Only 1 exsists + would ruin game)

Regular RTS buildings:
Housing (dont think this would be nessacery)
Garage (Vehicle Factory would be a better name)
Train-station/Portal chamber (A train station would need a hell of alot of room but the portal chamber sounds a good idea)

Sorry again if I sounded abit harsh :( but everything else sounded rather good.

Hey! I said to give feedback, so I was actuallt expecting more harsh comments than what I got :mrgreen:
And again, this was just a brainstorm that I did, and I just added stuff that came to mind.

The Heros was mainly not to be overpowered but more of a spirit boost for the troops, like when you play Halo3 and you find wounded soliders and they see Master Cheif it's like, "Wow! Is that a Spartan?!" or "We got a Spartan! Chargh!!!"

As for Gordon, they say something simmilar throught the game and you do see that they respond by helping more.
If you hide, they are more defencive, if you go Rambo on enemy units they help with that too.(I don't think to many notice this while playing the game since there is very little difference between Def mode and Rambo mode^_^)
With this said, the heroes could be some kind of "upgrade" of some sort like combat boost(they fight better or like it's their last stand), instead of a fysical model representing them.(In either way Gordon will never be a good model unless anybody breaks in to valve and steals the noe good model they have there, seeing that they have one)

What I tought G-Man could do was mainly a non-combat unit but a scout like unit, since he kindof never touches a weapon throught the entire series.
You send him out and when there are enemies around he caould "G-Man disapare" like in the FPS, but it would be more like a diversion and cloaced unit.(Yet again, just an idea.)

Zombies and antlions may come later, but as you said they're not playable now. This was also just a sugestion for later addons for more factions^_^

I didn't know of the Research buildings, so this was my bad^_^
Vorts: didn't know about them being elite units either, was just thinking since they can spawn stuff using their alien ray thingies :wink:
MP5: I can't remember the actuall name for it in the game, but it's NOT the MP5 from CSS. I was tinking of the SMG(There is another name for it.).
Giving this as a standard weapon to infantry rebels and combines, the AR2 could be a weapons upgrade from the Research buildings that must be purchased before being able to use it. And giving them the abillity to swap between those two for like,
SMG: short range, small amount of enemies.
AR2: long range, under heavy fire, antlion guards and so.
pluss if say they "run out" of ammo, they would swap to the other gun and run for a nearby ammo crate.(not saying that that is good RTS gameplay, but a realimse addon that could be cool)

The sniper was kindof like the special units in the C&C series. Tanya from RA1 could "snipe" with here pistoles, and in Generals, as GLA, you had this stealth dude that could take out the driver in enemy vehicles from a distance. They could move freely around without having to bunker down before fireing since they where stealth, but this being from the HL2 universe that would be a good idea.
You would move him to the desired location, but before he could shoot he would have to "get low" and "setup his gear". In more way this could be used is as a scout instead of the G-Man idea, and then you'd have a combat usefull scout. meaning lifting the fog of war for better view of enemy targets would be dubled?? Just came with an idea...

Combine truck.
Yes, it's probably the APC I meant. I was just brainstorming and couldent seem to remember the correct name for the thing :mrgreen:
Having this as a APC or a light "tank" was what I was thinking.
Now the rollerballs where more like an unit(if there was to be 2 or more factions), seing that the combine could have them as moveable units, and if the rebels where to have an upgrade that alowed them to reprogram the rollerballs like Alyx does in the FPS.
The mines where to be like a thing that you'd have like 3-5 of them in the buggy or the APC so that they could be dropped where ever you liked.(This is the small mines that grapple the ground.)

The strider was just as a faction idea. If you where to choose the combine you would be able to build striders as movable units.

The "take over building" was a idea from Generals. There you have to upgrade(from the baracks) the soliders to be able to take over buildings so that you can take over oil rigs and what not to make money. What I was thinking of here was for it to be more like training for the troops. Training in how to flank and clear a house, outpost or whatever building that has enemies in it. From there, when done you'd get to use "Defend From Building" making the units cover all the exits like windows, doors and even holes in the ground. Well, seing that you have enough units to cover them all. :mrgreen:

The Elite combines are allready in use(The white ones with one red "eye")
But not to use the grav gun I can understand. It was a sugestion, not a command :wink:

The portal gun:
I was thinking of this like a own unit that has that ability to move very fast from place to place, but making it NOT overpowered would take some work, but here's what I came up with.
The unit is able to use the portal gun(YAY!!!), but only to places it can see(not beyond the fog of war).
The unit can NOT open a portal and let others through, just that one unit.
The portals close after the unit has gone through, makeing it harder for the unit to use in a good way(It's an RTS! strategy is key^_^)
The unit would have a bigger view of the battle field but it woulden't be noting but a backup unit that has the ability to get away more easly than other units.
The portal gun could be used as long as the unit is alive, but there would be a cooldown on it so that you couldn't use it like a monkey eats 100 bananas^_^
To help the gameflow (FPS drop), not me too large the portal's could just be turned off(not having to see the other end)

Housing:
This is kind of a must in RTS's, it could even just be an old shack that's 2by4! In later C&C games like Generals though, there was no need for this so then again it probably woulden't be nessesary.

Garage:
At first I thought of calling it Workshop, but then I thought that that would be for research, so I thought that since them being rebels it would be like a garage looking building since they don't have much more that 3-4 vehicles, and the combine don't have more than that either. But yeah, it's just what would suit the buildings purpose witch would eventually give it it's name. (Vehicle factory was better though^_^)

Trainstation/portal-chamber:
I was thinking of the train like how Gordon arrived to City17, but the Portal-Chamber would probably be better. Thay way it kindof remind me of the chronospehere form RA1, where you could send one APC with units in the middle of the enemy base. Kinks would ofcourse have to be worked out...

I that's that for now, but please be as harsh as you need to be, after all this is needed for more development. And again, just ask for what I was thinking of with spesiic units and I'll try and give an expo on that like I did with the units above.
