Couple of suggestions and problems.

Postby RobbertdeJel » Sun Dec 14, 2024 12:52 am

first of all, i like the game! but there are a lot of issues that need to be fixed.

there are a couple of points i'd like to talk about but i'll start with the technical issues.

my pc specs: windows 7, i7 3.2ghz nvidea 780-ti

- i got kicked for creating to many antlions, when i tried to reconnect i had this message 'Rob overflowed reliable channel' and couldn't reconnect. please fix this.
- path finding is horrible, sometimes it get's stuck somewhere even though there was enough of open space to walk around. you actually have to navigate them out to get them unstuck which is annoying.
- there are to much building restrictions. you can't even build something if the surface angle is to big. please take off some of these restrictions because it get's annoying in some situations.
- headcrabs canisters can and will get stuck in mid air. if you fire the directly at a building or an antlion they just get stuck in mid-air. could this be fixed?
- match finding is horrible, sorry but it is.
- steam overlay doesn't work 90% if the time.
- when the game ends you get set into sandbox mode, why?

there is more but i'll start of with this.

for re-balancing..
headcrab canisters:
- maybe make it so you have to create the canisters first before you can fire them.
vortigaunts:
-just to many antlions :') decrease it to 3 antlions for each vortigaunt.

as for suggestions:
add jeeps and apc's maybe? would be cool.
things that fly maybe? ( Mr. Darkness: suggest helicopters, dropships and the other flying combine thing )

that's it for now. sorry for my bad english but i'm dyslexic.

I have played with him before, we were playing in a match and the ammount of antlions that both team had was just so big due to the vortigaunt's ability, so everyone from my enemy team and from my team crashed, leaving me the only one playing (they tried to rejoin but it didnt work)
(the screenshot below wasnt that match, but i used these antlions to strike my enemy which made the game unplayable and people started crashing.)

so yes, as I suggested to him, this can be fixed by decreasing the number of antlions that are called

Also, I can verify that the canister is a huge problem because it gets stuck in the air because of a strider or a broken structure, breaks target focusing and leaves my units unmicro-able, the headcrab canister should be really patched out

2v2v2v2 match, headcrab canisters caused my allied to crash twice and broke my units microing, and caused a huge fps slaughter

Last but not least, sometimes when you end the game you go into sandbox mode (but I think it will be fixed next patch)

thats all, everything else is ok, the pathfinding isnt perfect but its alright, if my base is too small with many structures i have to micro my soldiers to get out of their barracks in the little space between my structures

match finding is ok, there are some things that should be considered though, automatic match finding to queue parties of 3 or more players into a 3v3 or 4v4 would look good

Unfortunately since we can only provide a few dedicated game servers most multiplayer matches take place locally which accounts for some of the performance and latency issues.

I agree though that Canister and Antlion spam are both a problem. We will address this.

Yeah true, the game is not very optimized. You can even have a Nvidia GTX 980 and still have below 30fps during big battles. However I find it strange, I currently use an old "gaming" laptop from 2009 with ATI Radeon 5650 and a older INTEL core i5 and 8 GB ram and I only crashed once. Dont get me wrong, I love spaming the enemy base with Head crabs so that zombies destroy others people bases and I love building an army of striders and wrecking stuff even tho In only get 6fps when 9 striders are in action but I dont seem to crash or get thrown out to the desktop

Your GPU is not really going to matter during big battles.

There are certain things that will make the game crash such as:
  • Edicts overflow
  • Too many entity models being rendered at once
  • Too many particle effects being spammed (I think this can happen with the Hunter)

These things are not within our control as a mod, apart from staying with the limits.

The antlions are now already set to a hard-coded limit per player. The Headcrab cannisters also now disappear after 60 seconds.
