Dev Video and Beta Source Code

Howdy folks! It's been a couple of months since we last had an official update on the progress of the new version of the Half-Life 2: Wars beta, and we have a couple of goodies to share with you fine people. Development has been moving ahead at a steady pace since the beginning of the year, and we draw ever closer to the next public beta. In case you forgot, that will take the form of a multiplayer demo where the only playable race is the Antlions. Today we have two major items on the agenda: a development progress video (below) and the release of the HLW Beta v0.5 source code.

You can see it in high quality on Youtube or on our ModDB.
The team has been hard at work since you last heard from us in early January; 2010 has been a very productive year for HLW thus far. Sander has continued to tweak the code to improve performance, and some of the more recent features implemented in the mod include a new shader for the fog of war effect, some new HUD icons, team colors, the Antlion "burrow" ability, and improved unit AI and navigation code. You can see all this in action in the dev video above. Note that the "spit turrets" in the video aren't part of the game, they're more of a dev toy.

We also have a surprise for all of you fellow Half-Life 2 mod developers out there: the source code for our last public beta (v0.5), released almost two years ago back in July 2008. The code is free to all of you out there for non-commercial use, and you are welcome to modify and use it so long as you credit Half-Life 2: Wars and link back to this website.

That's it for this time. Progress is steady and you will hear from us in the near future. Expect more videos and screenshots. Meanwhile, you can follow our development a bit more closely by reading our forums. We're also still recruiting talented developers, so if you're an experienced Source engine developer with a bit of free time and an interest in helping us fully realize Half-Life 2 in RTS form, drop us a line.

Very nice, i have this feeling that the code will be helping alot for people who want rts mods for half life 2 wars, since there aren't so many.

and like i always suggest, it might be an idea to post on moddb page, moddb is very popular wich would get you more chance on getting those "talented developers"

Should be first, and I'm not even sucking up to the devs. The current first place is MorteWood Mall? A load of shit if you'll ask me, looked cool at first. Untill I realised its really all zombie games put into one, but thats it, nothing new.

Okay back on topic, like I said, this really should be first, but like its been mentioned the only reason its not first is because many people think HL2Wars is dead.

It's not based on ratings or anything, the ranking on Moddb is based on profile views per day. We have a super-high rating in terms of feedback, I think it's 9.4 with ~600 or so votes. We regularly get to 1st when we post news :)

So the only thing that got them first place was the cult of people waiting for a release, thats bullshit if you ask me.

It's nice to see a dev team that dont care about that stuff, instead of turning their game into a way of getting MOTY.

the new source code is awesome! but i'm waiting when you guyz are done with HL2Warz ^^
P.S: i know how to do maps to this mod ;P i'm only need is 1 script code and that is hl2warz.fgd xD
P.P.S: but i have one question..... how did u guyz to this awesome mod? (i only know that u guyz did many scripts)

Yeah, like, for FE we started at like rank 200, and then jumped all the way up to Rank #10 at our highest point. After that, it has stayed in the hundreds and every news update it will go straight up.

ModDb's rank system usually doesn't mean much, it only means what Mod has been visited the most at a time, and usually, if you spam news updates, you can have the CRAPPIEST Mod, but #1 rank on ModDb.
