Well they are their own faction right now, but you can only play them in the antlion game modes. At this stage, we will not be making it so you can be antlion vs rebels or zombineZaki90 wrote:Are they going to become their own faction, or a simply a gametype?

Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
That's an interesting way to go for the mod, but I have to admit, it would be much better to have it that way than to have the Antlion faction playable all the time. By the way, nice work on the Antlion demo, I can't wait to play it.Discrate wrote:Well they are their own faction right now, but you can only play them in the antlion game modes. P.S. Are you planning on creating a game mode where zombies are playable? I'm just curious.

No, there will only be 3 playable factions.P.S. Are you planning on creating a game mode where zombies are playable? I'm just curious.
Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
It would be interesting and fun to control the Zombies though. Oh well.Discrate wrote:No, there will only be 3 playable factions.P.S. Are you planning on creating a game mode where zombies are playable? I'm just curious.
Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
Well, I would imagine it would be very difficult to get a gametype suitable for zombies, let alone have it be balanced and actually worth playing. My only guess would be some sort of survival type gamemode, having a human player be the zombie faction, and say 3 other human players being either Rebel or Combine, and they would use limited resources to survive. But that's just me.MCJJ wrote:It would be interesting and fun to control the Zombies though. Oh well.Discrate wrote:No, there will only be 3 playable factions.P.S. You know, I kinda like that idea. Survival Mode can be proven fun along the other gamemodes if it was balanced to the core in the game. The*Joker wrote: Well, I would imagine it would be very difficult to get a gametype suitable for zombies, let alone have it be balanced and actually worth playing. Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
I agree, but then the dev team would have to develop a way for the zombies to get reinforced, and if the survivors could get reinforced, it would too much of a hassle, and people would call it Zombie Master.MCJJ wrote:You know, I kinda like that idea. It would be fun to have a Zombie Survival gametype where one player or A.I. would have 5 headcrab cannisters to drop and try to infest as many people as possible. The other persons objective is to survive as long as possible.

Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
Now I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to spend time and energy on creating and balancing special game modes for playing antlions and zombies after this demo is finnished. However, seeing as how they're evidently both incorporatedin in the game and controllable (there are zombie maps for the 0.05 release) it's a shame not to let players play them in skirmish games. They could be vastly inferior to rebels and combines, lack builders and proper tech trees for all I care, the fun of being able to set up a zvz game against a friend still makes it worth it to me :)

Antlions are a playable faction, this is what our next release is going to be, an Antlion multiplayer demo. It will only feature the Antlion faction.JeCa wrote:Now I can definitely see why you wouldn't want to spend time and energy on creating and balancing special game modes for playing antlions and zombies after this demo is finnished. Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
I believe he's only referring to the actual zombie faction. As stated previously, antlions will only be playable in select gametypes, and he is saying he would find it interesting to have them an actual selectable faction in regular skirmish modes. We are just discussing the possibility of a zombie faction in select gametypes, but that's out of the question.Discrate wrote:Antlions are a playable faction, this is what our next release is going to be, an Antlion multiplayer demo. Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
Well I got that. What I was wondering was why you won't be be able to play antlions versus the Rebel or Combine factions in regular Skirmish games once the full game is released. I know it probably wouldn't be balanced but it wouldn't have to either. Maybe there's some vital mechanic to the antlions I don't know about yet which makes this impossible. Still, it just feels like a waste of resources to first put an entire working faction in the game and then not let people play around with it as they want.Discrate wrote:Antlions are a playable faction, this is what our next release is going to be, an Antlion multiplayer demo. When it comes to the zombies I understand why no one's ever gonna make a full faction of them on par with the human races. However, adding just one HQ building that can spawn zombies into the first full release, then letting players choose to start with that in skirmish games would be both interesting and fun. It could use placeholder art or an asset from HL2 as model and wouldn't need any special properties that'd take a significant portion of time to code, considering all the zombies already are in the game with working AIs etc.
Re: Antlion Demo Trailer and Imminent Release
How about someone make an abandoned red barn model with a Combine Headcrab Canister in the middle of the place with a hole in the roof, alongside some corpses near it? (like the barn in the Water Hazard Chapter in HL2) Although some would say that the red barn would be almost similar to the Rebel's HQ Barn, it might be a zombie building that'll be good to start on. After all, most of the the zombies in HL2 are found in abandoned locations like Ravenholm and the tunnel hideout in the Sand Traps or Highway 17 Chapter (I think).JeCa wrote: When it comes to the zombies I understand why no one's ever gonna make a full faction of them on par with the human races. I hope this suggestion might be worth a try.

I was just looking around on moddb, and noticed this sentence.Ennui wrote:That's all for today, but we'll be in touch over the next few weeks leading up to the release sometime in September
it says the release will be somewhere in September but October is already starting tomorrow.
it might be an idea posting something on the moddb-page about the release being delayed or something.
because people will wonder what happened.
