Combine "One-of-a-kind" units

Combine "One-of-a-kind" units

For singleplayer maps/campaigns, we already know the rebels have Gordon, Alyx, and Barney, but what about the combine? Well, I tried comming up with a few that would rival the Heros of the resistance.

A few things that they both share being hero units are: Larger LOS, health regeneration, has higher hp than a standard unit, possibly essential to the mission (as in they die means you failed).

Gordons equivelant: Lt. SHADE-147-0861, a combine assassin that uses a katana like weapon (combines with crowbars? now thats just silly). Uses a cloaking generator which wears off over time, and has matte black armor. Gordon would have HEV overcharge, making him take only 25% dmg or so for a short time. Their special abillity is to increase the speed of nearby units by a moderate bit. Has stylized black designs on the armor (player recognition).

Alyx's equivelant: Sgt. RAVEN-324-0862, a CQB-bine (the red/grey guys w/shotguns), has the same attack range as alyx's pistol, but were alyx has rapid fire, RAVEN has a higher damage-per-shot, but slower rate of fire. His armor has a stylized raven on the back (easier player recognition). His special abillity is to slightly raise the defence stats of nearby infantry.

Barney's equivelant: Cmd. SWORD-190-0651, Same stats as baney, has a bonus abillity (aside energy cores) that raises nearby units attack power. Uses an AR2 like Barney. His armor is black Elite armor with a stylized sword on the back (again easier recognition).

Im open to other suggestions (and i DEFINITELY wanna see col. Cubbage in a map), and want to see if anyone has any ideas or wants to work on these units for me.

Although npc's like Alyx and Barney could work like hero's in single player, I don't think gordon will.

count gordon out it would possibly ruin any plans for a HL2wars campian

Not really, all he gets is a crowbar and a damage reduction abillity, he wouldnt be too hard to deal with with snipers and such long range units, kinda like rock paper scissors.

I c what you mean but i kinda underestand that he teli into the HL2 world in half life 2 then we have played as him up to ep 2 and im guessing ep 3 will start in the helicopter and will finnish with somthing possibly going wrong again (portal crystal going haywire) and he getting taken away from the siuation by Gman so I cant really see gordon being in more than 1 place at the same time

Kinda hoping something happens and the gman finally lets him go, but who knows. I mean we still have adrian floating around out there, but i guess he comes in if something happens to gordon (and i think gearbox still owns the rights to him).

Wow. Your incredibly ignorant. There has to be some kind of specialty units otherwise you cant have a storyline, and without a storyline, u cant have campaigns, which are much more fun than just a bunch of random maps.

Beat a campaign=sense of accomplishment (except halo 3)

Beat individual maps="what? thats it? fail"

Well, I think putting Gordon in game as hero would completely ruin the mod. It's just stupid.

Ofcourse main characters like alyx, barney or maybe a new one should be used in a campaign and maybe you could call them hero's. I don't think they should be recruitable or anything like heroes in warcraft 3.

And combine "heroes" with swords? I dunno about that.

The combine assassin was tasked to infiltrate enemybases and camps and use stealth. A gun is not stealth, and a stunstick is not intended to be fatal unless it it was use to smash the targets skull, which would take a good bit of time and effort to do. Besides theres a lack of short range units and a change of pace from normal weapons such as the smg and shotgun. Me and a few other colaborators have put a new rebel design in the works, but that may take a while to complete.

i think that each faction should get a hero.but not action heroes or the like. but a Commando unit, a one man army.EG a Rebel that killed alot of combine and become very good at it. or a Elite Combine supersoldier,created to hunt rebel cells without aid. maybe even a 7 hour war veteran.that's my suggestion.

but commander unit could work,hell why not 8)

Commando unit would be alot better than Hero's like Gordon Freeman so i back your idea bigredone ^^

For multiplayer minor heros would be fine, but for objective based singleplayer maps, then having a major hero that you need to have to complete objectives or something would be good. At least Barney, we dont know what happened to him after ep1, and some maps could be post-ep3, meaning gordon doesnt have to be around, freeing up alyx. And so far we havent met any hero units that the combine have. So i figured the combine need a few major heros to compete with barney and alyx.

And so far we havent met any hero units that the combine have.
What about Advisors? The Objective could be "secure the advisor till he is awake" and then "kill every single rebel" with the advisor...this would be fun...
